Generate splice junction data from publicly available RNA-seq data using open-source tools to identify novel isoforms

Capstone project for Master of Science in Bioinformatics at Hood College.

Abstract

This capstone project focused on generating splice junction data from publicly available RNA-seq datasets using open-source bioinformatics tools. The goal was to identify novel isoforms that may not be present in standard reference annotations, contributing to our understanding of transcriptome diversity.

Project Details

  • Utilized publicly available RNA-seq data from GEO and other repositories
  • Applied open-source tools for splice junction detection
  • Identified and characterized novel isoforms
  • Contributed to transcriptome annotation improvements
